You could be a Manchurian Candidate and not even know it

I was sorting through some books and magazines last week and this caught my attention:  Conspiracy USA – The frightened Far Right and how it operates.  There were four different special reports in the issue and the first talked about the aftermath of the U.S. presidential elections.  Here are a few quotes from that report.  The Radical Right’s totalitarian methods in the campaign, and since, seriously threaten American freedom…the mutual confidence essential to free government is slowly being cut away by propaganda.  Step by step, decent citizens come to tolerate attacks upon the loyalty of loyal men.

Oh, this is going to be good”, I thought, as I dove into the magazine.  The article asked, “What’s an extremist?” and made a little joke.  But the real menace of extremism cannot be laughed away.  It is unfortunately, a fever that has not been overcome by the election results.  From what I saw in the campaign, and what has happened since, I know we have cause for serious concern about the future of freedom in America…Hardened adherents to the conspiracy theory of the Radical Right send a different kind of letter, filled with insult and invective…to signify their suspicion that I, along with most other public officials, am either an unwitting tool or a conscious agent in a sinister plot to betray the country.

The author continued by giving a comprehensive summary of rapid growth within the so-called Radical or Far Right and was alarmed by how many decent, ordinary folk seem to have been caught up in the post-election fervor to point an angry finger at the Left.  He wrote, “There is plenty of room in this country for the whole spectrum of opinion, from the most progressive to the most reactionary.  The sweep of opinion is the essence of a free society.”  There’s plenty of room for the whole spectrum of opinion unless you are identified with the Far Right.  If that’s where the opinion comes from, then it seriously threatens American freedom.

In this talk from 15 June 2014, “Understanding's the Antidote You Seek to Propaganda's Technique”, Alan Watt said, “Uniformity of opinion strangely enough, comes along with liberalism.”

How we think and perceive is so well understood and used against us.  Most of the news is propaganda, especially about wars or the reasons we’re given for increases in gasoline prices.

The magazine that I was thumbing through was the Look issue from 26 January 1965, which ceased publication in 1971.  Do you think we’re living through a script?  A friend recently commented that the Rosetta Stone for understanding the political Left of the U.S. is to see what they project onto the political Right.  Whatever they blame the Right of doing is what they themselves are up to.  Obviously in the Left/Right paradigm of U.S. politics they’ve been using the same playbook for decades.  Now, everything the Fringe, Radical Right was accusing the Left of in 1965 has been accomplished.

Alan often talked about the two great experiments of Communist Russia and the capitalist U.S.A., and how eventually these two systems would be merged.  This was documented by Norman Dodd in the United States House Select Committee to Investigate Tax-Exempt Foundations and Comparable Organizations, otherwise known as the Reece Committee, which did its investigative work between 1952 and 1954.  This Marxist revolution has been on the go for over a hundred years.  It was well-planned, long planned, and worked over generations in Fabian style.  Those nutters on the Right back in 1965?  They were right.  But the playbook stays the same and the media remains firmly under the control of the Left, or more accurately, under the control of the seldom-seen puppeteers who long ago planted their flag on the media hill.

Alan talks about the making of a “good citizen”, one who believes what they’re told to believe.  Much of the world’s news is really faked.  Really faked.

Since we’re rummaging through the archives of the 1960s, watch again the eye-opening 1968 episode of the British television series Thirty-Minute Theatre entitled “The News Benders”.  You’ll be treated to the excellent acting of Donald Pleasance as he explains how fake news is created.  This fictional show has it all.  The murky world of a mysterious brotherhood, surveillance, coercion and a potentially lethal brain chip.

Alan said that the way the faked news is put across, it becomes truer than truth in the minds of the public.  Truer than reality itself.  Propaganda often seems truer than facts.

He talked about all the agencies set up throughout the 1950s, 60s and 70s through just one organization, the Rockefeller Foundation.  He said they were involved in creating the politics of the U.S., the foreign affairs of the U.S., the CIA and their geopolitical strategies, in particular throughout Latin America where the elites’ own business interests were.

Returning now to the Look magazine issue, Conspiracy USA.  The first article was written by Frank Church.  The same Frank Church who in 1975 headed the United States Senate Select Committee to Study Governmental Operations with Respect to Intelligence Activities, otherwise known as the Church Committee.  This committee investigated abuses by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), National Security Agency (NSA), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), which were at that time widely seen as being under the control of the Right.  Funny thing is now these agencies appear to be under the control of the Left and nobody is willing to investigate their abuses.  Who is watching the watchers?

Some of the things that this committee uncovered included revelations about Operation MKULTRA which involved the drugging and torture of unwitting US citizens as part of human experimentation on mind control; COINTELPRO involving the surveillance and infiltration of American political and civil-rights organizations; Family Jewels, a CIA program to covertly assassinate foreign leaders; Operation Mockingbird as a systematic propaganda campaign with domestic and foreign journalists operating as CIA assets and dozens of US news organizations providing cover for CIA activity.

If you believe in coincidence, then coincidentally the other day someone who was blissfully unaware that I was in possession of an ancient Look magazine which had gotten my wheels spinning, sent me a link to a Paul Craig Roberts interview with Reiner Fuellmich.  The sender advised me to start at the point in the interview where PCR (poor Paul Craig Roberts with that acronym) was talking about the CIA.   I started listening a few minutes earlier than suggested.  PCR said the Biden administration is so concerned with Ukraine’s borders but here in the U.S., illegal immigrants are pouring in and that in New York City, non-citizens are allowed to vote.  The Democrats are trying to get “election reform” and what that means is that anyone can vote.  Fly in, get off the plane and go vote.  They’re trying to destroy the whole concept of citizenship.  This is a commitment of the Biden administration.” The DOJ is investigating red states who are trying to tighten up the electoral process so that you can’t vote unless you are a citizen-resident of the state.  This is now being attacked as a violation of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

Then PCR and Fuellmich got into an area which raised some alarm bells.  I would probably need to listen to the entire episode, and then do quite a bit of digging into Roberts’ economic ideas.  He outlined a brief history of the U.S. dollar taking over from the British sterling pound as the world’s reserve currency.  This, he asserts, is where the U.S. gets its power and the Biden administration’s sanctions against Russia have gone a long way to destroying this.  Now countries are starting to say, “Let’s settle our exchanges in our own currencies.”  Globalism destroys cultures and makes it easier for money to be “the all”.  They get into materialism versus values.  If the dollar breaks up, it will easier for countries to have national awareness and retain their cultures, Roberts suggested.

This is what alarmed me because should this occur, it would create hyperinflation the likes of which would make the inflation of the Weimar Republic seem like sound economic policy.  You might need to drag around one of those above ground swimming pools filled with cash to buy a loaf of bread.  I understand that Fuellmich and others are flailing about looking for ways to create alternative societies where unvaxxed, independent-minded folk can have their own judicial, monetary, health and education systems (yeah, right) but this approach would cause a disastrous fallout unlike anything history has ever shown us.  Perhaps Utopian ideas like this are to be expected in the inexorable march to the Great Reset.

But the part that I was supposed to watch was when Paul Craig Roberts talked about the CIA.  He mentioned their involvement in the Americas, that CIA-orchestrated regime change was largely a project on behalf of the interests of a handful of elites, and he mentioned that the CIA controlled the narrative of the JFK assassination.

He said that in 1975 when he was a congressional staffer and Senator Frank Church was holding the Church Committee hearings on the Central Intelligence Agency for, amongst other things its role in assassinations and assassination attempts of various leaders, e.g. Cuba’s Fidel Castro, the congressman that he worked for arranged for him to meet with James Jesus Angleton, the former head of Counterintelligence for the CIA.

Angleton said to Paul Craig Roberts, “They’ll [the Church Committee] never find out what we do.  Sometimes we don’t know ourselves.  They can’t find out because we always have a cover story ready.  The cover story is ready in advance, and we hand it out to our assets in the media.  So the minute it hits the news we’ve already controlled it with our cover story.  We also know that over time, cover stories wear out, holes develop, people start getting suspicions and the people who are suspicious start being listened to.  (Roberts and another guest make comparison comments to Corona and 9/11).  Angleton continued, “But we already have four or five or six other cover stories.  So once our cover story starts getting troubled or tattered, we release another one or we release two and then the proponents of one argue with the proponents of the other over which of these stories is true and it gets further and further away from what actually happened. This is why you can never find out what we do.”

I was reminded of two things.  The first was the book written in 2000 by Frances Stonor Saunders entitled The Cultural Cold War: The CIA and the World of Arts and Letters.  In this book, Saunders wrote about the early days of the CIA, how it was born out of the World War II Office of Strategic Services and how involved the CIA was in arts and letters.  It covers a wide swathe including journalism (Operation Mockingbird), novels, opera, theatre, painting.  What is fascinating in this book is not just the operations the CIA ran in communist countries, but how it functioned in the West and the U.S., deploying the likes of Hannah Arendt, Isaiah Berlin (whose positive and negative freedom idea is mentioned by Alan Watt in this talk), Leonard Bernstein, Robert Lowell, George Orwell, and Jackson Pollock as weapons in the Cold War.

At one point in the book (which I do not have in front of me to cite the exact quote or page on which the quote can be found), Saunders quotes Alan Dulles, head of the CIA during the early days of the Cold War, who oversaw the 1953 Iranian coup d’état, the 1954 Guatemalan coup d’état (Edward Bernays, United Fruit Company), Project MKUltra, the Bay of Pigs Invasion (for which President John F. Kennedy fired him.)  Dulles was one of the members of the Warren Commission investigating the assassination of John F. Kennedy (you know, the man who fired him.)

Dulles said that the CIA was literally swimming in black ops money.  He would often have a casual lunch with David Rockefeller who would ask how things were going.  Dulles would complain of budget shortages for this or that and Rockefeller would take out his check book (over oysters and martinis, I like to imagine) and write a big fat check for Dulles to use as he saw fit.

The other thing it reminded me of was the famous unattributed quote that Ron Suskind cited in his 2004 New York Times article, Faith, Certainty and the Presidency of George W. Bush.  Karl Rove is sometimes credited with the quote.  Rove is a Republican neocon and political consultant, Senior Advisor and Deputy Chief of Staff during the George W. Bush administration, who played a leading role in the lead up to the Iraq war.

From the New York Times article:  The aide said that guys like me [Suskind] were "in what we call the reality-based community," which he defined as people who "believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality." I nodded and murmured something about enlightenment principles and empiricism. He cut me off. "That's not the way the world really works anymore," he continued. "We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that reality — judiciously, as you will — we'll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that's how things will sort out. We're history's actors ... and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do."  Rove denies saying this.  Suskind confirmed the validity of the quote but clarified that he's never identified Rove as the speaker.

In this talk, Alan said that those who study us know that we live in a partly hallucinogenic world because of the rapidly changing memes, the constant bombardment with stories we’re supposed to be concerned about.  We lose our grounding, we become neurotic and run off for analysis.  Propaganda works on the subconscious and leaves you feeling that you’re making your own decisions.  The whole point of life is to reclaim yourselves because most of you have lost yourselves to propaganda and the propaganda starts once you understand your first words.”

Conspiracy USA features “A Republican Looks at Extremism” and we are introduced to Arthur Larson, “a tall, blond, dignified scholar on a voyage into wonderland.”  Larson said, “Participation in [Far Right] superpatriotic activities seems to satisfy some kind of romantic urge in people to find a storybook identification in what otherwise may be a hard, uninteresting life.  Most of these people just need education.”  It turns out that Larson is just the man for the job of “educating.”

Look magazine mentions that one of his career appointments was Director of the United States Information Agency, but the author doesn’t give a job description.  Here is what USIA did:

Former USIA Director of TV and Film Service Alvin Snyder recalled in his 1995 memoir that "the U.S. government ran a full-service public relations organization, the largest in the world, about the size of the twenty biggest U.S. commercial PR firms combined. Its full-time professional staff of more than 10,000, spread out among some 150 countries, burnished America‘s image and trashed the Soviet Union 2,500 hours a week with a 'tower of babble' comprised of more than 70 languages, to the tune of over $2 billion per year". "The biggest branch of this propaganda machine" was the USIA.

The USIA operated from 1953 to 1999, was a United States agency devoted to "public diplomacy".  In 1999, prior to the reorganization of intelligence agencies by President George W. Bush, President Bill Clinton assigned USIA's cultural exchange and non-broadcasting intelligence functions to the newly created Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs at the U.S. Department of State.  So, for forty-six years, the USIA functioned more or less as part of the “intelligence” community and would have been a major player in the CIA’s cultural Cold War, both abroad and at home.

Another of the articles in Look magazine’s Conspiracy USA was entitled “The Far Right’s Fight Against Mental Health.”  It covered a section leader of the John Birch Society who was running for state legislature on an anti-mental-health platform because “mental health is alien and Communist-inspired.”

Many on the Right denied that there was a mental health crisis, that instead this was a “weapon being skillfully used by Communist propagandists to bring about conformity to the Marxist ideology.”  Some on the Right were promoting a booklet entitled Brainwashing – A Synthesis of a Russian Textbook on Psychopolitics, which included a speech allegedly given by Lavrentiy P. Beria, former head of the Soviet Secret Police, where he supposedly instructed students “By psychopolitics create chaos.  Leave a nation leaderless.  Kill our enemies.”

According to the article, no evidence had been produced to support the assertion that Beria ever made such a speech.  I thought it would be worthwhile to try to find that evidence.  What I found instead was that the book was published by the Church of Scientology in 1955.  L. Ron Hubbard is said to have authored the text and alleged it was the secret manual written by Lavrentiy Beria in 1936.  In this text, many of the practices Scientology opposes (psychiatry teaching, brain surgery, electroshock, income tax) are described as Communist-led conspiracies.  The text also describes the Church of Scientology as the greatest threat to Communism.  L. Ron Hubbard Jr., estranged son of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, stated:  "Dad wrote every word of it. Barbara, Bryan, and my wife typed the manuscript off his dictation."

What I also uncovered was that Hubbard's text is a relative copy of the 1953, best-selling, non-fiction book Brain-washing in Red China by famed journalist Edward Hunter.  The spin of the Look article is that the Beria quotes are made up and therefore Brainwashing – A Synthesis of a Russian Textbook on Psychopolitics is meaningless.  But the concepts in Hubbard’s work of “fiction” came right out of this researched exposé on Chinese Communist brainwashing techniques, so those on the Right, back in 1965, were justified in their anxieties.

It turns out that mass formation psychosis might not be that original an explanation for compliance.  In a review of Hunter’s 1953 book, the New York Times Book Review wrote, “Brain-washing in Red China suggests seriously that China is in a trance, induced by mass hypnosis.

In this talk, Alan Watt quoted Beria who said, to paraphrase, “We used to think it would take seventy years to make changes within society.  Today we make upgrades every four years with the use of propaganda.”

Donald Robinson wrote in Look magazine, “The chief subject for the extremists’ smears is the National Association for Mental Health, the organization doing the most to fight mental illness in the United States.  Founded in 1950 the NAMH has nearly 1,000 local chapters and more than 1,000,000 members and volunteer workers.  Mrs. Winthrop Rockefeller is the current president.  Mrs. Felix duPont, Jr., is a former president.  Dr. C.H. Hardin Branch, ex-president of the American Psychiatric Association, is a director.

Through its predecessor, the National Committee for Mental Hygiene, the NAMH pioneered the psychiatric-clinic movement and fostered the first full-scale research program in schizophrenia…The Rightists assert that the NAMH is part of a Russian-run apparatus to brainwash the United States. They maintain that it is somehow linked to the World Health Organization, a UN agency that they falsely say is a front for a Communist scheme to undermine the free world.

Sometimes ya gotta laugh.  That the Rockefellers were the creators of the American Medical Association is well documented.  This is from the World Health Organization’s website: “The Rockefeller Foundation and WHO have worked together to address global health challenges since WHO was first established.  The support of the Foundation has been – and will continue to be - fundamental, helping WHO to make major advances in providing equitable health outcomes for all.  The Rockefeller Foundation’s collaboration with WHO dates back to when the WHO constitution was first created. Over the past two decades, the Rockefeller Foundation has continued to be a key collaborator, providing over US$ 25.3 million in support to WHO programmes.”

Last year, many world leaders, including Boris Johnson, Angela Merkel and Emmanual Macron called for the creation of an international treaty for pandemic preparedness and response to be rooted in the constitution of the World Health Organization, so perhaps the “Rightists” weren’t so off base with their fears.  The Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security brought us the pandemic exercise Event 201 in 2019 and the Rockefeller Foundation brought us Scenarios for The Future of Technology and International Development (Operation Lockstep in 2010).  In 2021, USA Today called Operation Lockstep a social media conspiracy theory.

This is how Britannica.com defines mental hygiene: the science of maintaining mental health and preventing the development of psychosis, neurosis, or other mental disorders. Since the founding of the United Nations the concepts of mental health and hygiene have achieved international acceptance. As defined in the 1946 constitution of the World Health Organization, “health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.

In England and Wales, National Association for Mental Health (NAMH) was founded in 1946.  An organization by the same name was founded in the U.S. in 1950.  Its predecessor was called the National Committee for Mental Hygiene.  Hitler gave hygiene a bad odor.

If you really dig into the history of mental hygiene in the U.S., you’ll come upon the name William H. Welch.  He was one of the big four founding professors at Johns Hopkins Hospital, the first dean of Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and the founder of Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health, which was founded in 1916 with a grant from the Rockefeller Foundation.

From 1901 to 1933, Welch was founding president of the Board of Scientific Directors at the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research. He was an instrumental reformer of medical education in the United States as well as a president of the National Academy of Sciences from 1913–1917. He also was president of the American Medical Association, the Association of American Physicians, the History of Science Society, the Congress of American Physicians and Surgeons, the Society of American

Bacteriologists, and the Maryland State Board of Health. Welch was a founding editor of the Journal of Experimental Medicine.

Welch was called the “Dean of American Medicine” and when at Yale he joined the Skull and Bones sometimes called The Brotherhood of Death.  Under his training, famous residents included Walter Reed and Simon Flexner the founding director of the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research.

Welch served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War I and played a major role in the response to the 1918 Influenza Pandemic.

John D. Rockefeller Jr. funded Nelson Rockefeller’s purchase of the New York City land upon which the United Nations is headquartered, but of course, seeing all of these connections makes me a Right-Wing Conspiracy Theorist.  Okay, for sake of this piece, I will wear that moniker, and here are just a few names of members of Yale’s Skull and Bones:

Percy Rockefeller, 1900 – director of Brown Brothers Harriman, Standard Oil

John Rockefeller Prentice, 1928

J. Richardson Dilworth, 1938 – Rockefeller family lawyer

Maxwell Everts, 1884 – attorney for E.H. Harriman

Avril Harriman, 1913

Prescott Bush, 1917 – founding partner in Brown Brothers Harriman

E. Roland Harriman, 1917

Granger Kent Costikyan, 1929 – Brown Brothers Harriman (might have to investigate Brown Brothers Harriman some day)

George Herbert Walker, Jr., 1927 – uncle to George Herbert Walker Bush

George Herbert Walker Bush, 1948 – 41st President of the United States, 11th Director of Central Intelligence (CIA), son of Prescott Bush, father of George W. Bush. His Skull and Bones nickname was “Magog” (as in Gog and…)*

Raymond Price, 1951 – speechwriter to Nixon, Ford and Bush

Jonathan James Bush, 1953 – son of Prescott Bush

William H. Donaldson, 1953 – appointed chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission by George W. Bush, founding dean of Yale School of Management

John Forbes Kerry, 1966

George W. Bush, 1968 – grandson of Prescott Bush; son of George H. W. Bush; 46th Governor of Texas; 43rd President of the United States. His nickname was “Gog”.*

Christopher Taylor Buckley, 1975 – author, editor, chief speechwriter for Vice President George H. W. Bush

* According to Wikipedia:  The Gog prophecy is meant to be fulfilled at the approach of what is called the “end of days”, but not necessarily the end of the world. Jewish eschatology viewed Gog and Magog as enemies to be defeated by the Messiah, which would usher in the age of the Messiah. Christianity’s interpretation is more starkly apocalyptic: making Gog and Magog, here indicating nations rather than individuals, allies of Satan against God at the end of the millennium, as described in the Book of Revelation.

Alan said you cannot separate science from politics.  It cannot be done.  There’s no true science anymore.  You believe what you’re told to believe.  Statistics.  Theories.  Science today is nothing but theories.  Paul Craig Roberts voiced his concern that perhaps “they” were getting ready to release another bioweapon.  The Russians found documents in the Ukraine that point to the creation of ethnic specific pathogens.  It’s discarded as Russian propaganda, but Roberts asks, “Why would the Russians do this?  They already know nobody is going to believe them or find it credible.  Reiner Fuellmich said, “I do.”

Have another listen to a couple of talks that Alan Watt put out.  His talk from 3 August 2014 “Should We Fear the Biotech-engineer?” was uploaded again as a Redux on 2 May 2021.  He talked about ethnic specific pathogens and linked to a New York Times article from 1982, “DNA and Biological Warfare.”  In the 2006 Coast to Coast interview with George Noory, which we uploaded on the 15th anniversary of the interview on 11 April 2021, Alan talked about ethnic specific viruses.  Along with the Redux, we supplied links to several articles on the subject.

I’ve never thought of myself as a Conspiracy Theorist, just somebody looking for truth.  It isn’t that easy to find because, as Alan said in this talk, regarding the radicalization of youth, everything is a con.  You have to figure things out for yourselves.  Novelists and film producers receive grants (and directions from authorized futurist societies) to insert politically correct memes.  We’re fed lies and trivia.

In the movies, the blonde is hanging on the hero’s arm.  Do you get the blonde?  The seeds of dissatisfaction are sown.  Television, radio and the internet take the place of personal communication.  You are receiving intense indoctrination alongside the fantasy.  The writers and futurists are creating nihilism.  You’re given new concepts and updated all the time.  You are under the pressure of the technical society and its demands.  You are constantly distracted from The Self.

Alan talked about the holiday camps which were popularized in Britain after World War II through the mid-sixties.  You were kept constantly entertained with round the clock activities such as ballroom dancing, table tennis, snooker (pool), cinema, bingo and swimming.  No time to relax.  No time to think.

The modern version of this would be Las Vegas or a cruise ship or Disney World.  Something to keep the entire family busy all day long and then you’re back home to your own television.  One can live and die never knowing anything, never knowing oneself.  Kind of sad.

Peer pressure plays a role.  People want to belong to some kind of group.  Its hard for the individual to retain their own sense of critical thinking and individuality when everything uses propaganda, including all of what you think of as the good things, or the good organizations.

Alan concludes the talk by saying that you have to think for yourselves. Beware of groups.  Well-funded groups spring up.  They appear to be there for you.  Leaders are supplied, even in what seems to be the resistance, and the leader says the things you want to hear.

Use your mind and take the adventure.  Many people don’t want the adventure.  They can’t handle the stress that comes from conflict.  Perhaps this is where the mental hygienists come in?
